Area wrestlers return to the grind after the long holding break and the action picks up in a hurry.
One of the top tournaments to open the new year will be the 2019 Lamar Savages Invitational taking place this Saturday, Jan. 12. Wrestling action will begin at 10 a.m. at the Lamar Community Building.
The teams competing in the tournament this year will include the host Lamar Savages along with Baca County, Brush, Burlington, Cheyenne Wells, County Line, Crowley County, Dumas Tx., Fowler, Holly, Lamar, Las Animas, Limon, Merino, Stratton, Swink, and Yuma.
In the latest state rankings by On the Mat, Lamar is ranked No. 6 in 3A. In Class 2A, County Line is ranked No. 8, Crowley County is No. 9, and Holly is No. 11.
Individual wrestlers ranked for County Line include Tate Krentz, No. 9 at 120; Dawson Roesch is No. 2 at 195; and Jayce Bauer is No. 1 at 220.
For Holly, Brendyn Nordyke is ranked No. 2 at 126; Austin Crum is No. 3 at 132; Ethan Burns is No. 5 at 152; and Grayden Flint is No. 7 at 170.
